July In-Person Sesshin: FULL

With 57 participants and 7 on the waiting list, we’ll be at maximum in-person capacity for the July 22-29 sesshin. This means that the zendo will be nearly full and that accommodations will be tighter than we’ve seen at Chapin Mill in a long time. The bedrooms in the Retreat Center will also be at capacity, with additional participants in the outbuildings. Though we’re no longer accepting applications to attend this sesshin on land, you still may apply to participate online.

No Formal Sitting Tomorrow Morning, Saturday, July 15

Because of tomorrow’s introductory workshop at Chapin Mill, there will be no formal morning sitting at Arnold Park.

Rochester Pride Parade – East Avenue Closed Saturday, July 15

FYI, the Center will be hard to get to in the afternoon.

Zazen and Teisho by Donna-sensei, Sunday, July 16

At 8:30 am in the zendo at Arnold Park, we’ll have one extended round of sitting with a bell at the half-way point for a posture change, followed by kinhin, a short chanting service, and then Donna-sensei’s teisho. All will be broadcast on Zoom.

Other Activities this Weekend

Coming Soon: Annual Picnic, Saturday, August 5, 11 a.m.

Summer is here, and our annual potluck picnic at Chapin Mill is coming soon! Enjoy Sangha, great food, games, and 135 acres of woods, meadows, deer, foxes, turtles, and much more. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with members – as well as their families, friends, and dogs.

Bring a vegetarian main dish or dessert to pass (enough for eight people). Also bring clothes for volleyball and hiking, if you’d like to do any of those things, along with blankets or folding chairs. To avoid exposure to ticks, insect repellent is strongly recommended for those who plan on venturing into the woods. For impromptu jam sessions, feel free to bring musical instruments, if you’d like.

Looking for a Car

Sangha member Ben Taylor is helping his mother find an inexpensive used car. Their mechanic informed them that her existing car is unsafe and would cost more to repair than to replace. She’s looking for a reliable midsized car with low mileage, possibly an old hybrid or one with heated seats. Her budget is $5,000 to $10,000. If you have any leads, email Ben.
