Memorial for Victims of Club Q Shooting in Colorado Springs

On Saturday, December 3, at noon, Bachelor Forum, the oldest gay-owned-and-operated club in Rochester, will host a community memorial in honor of the victims and survivors of the homophobic and transphobic attack on employees and patrons of Club Q in Colorado Springs.
One of our staff members, Keith Carpenter, will be representing the RZC at the memorial. If you’re also available to attend in support of the people directly and indirectly affected by the shooting, your presence would be greatly appreciated. Bachelor Forum is located at 670 University Avenue in Rochester.

Sangha Member in Poetry Webinar at the Whitney Museum of American Art

On December 4, at 2:00 pm, a poetry reading, titled “Our Bodies’ Beautiful Not Being,” will feature “an intergenerational group of poets to address the ways in which Puerto Ricans continuously create from ‘nothingness,’ making a life, a way forward and even beauty, despite colonialism’s erasure and violence.” RZC member Irizelma Robles is one of the readers.

Youth Night in the Zendo

In the Arnold Park zendo from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 7 and 14, kids ages 10 to 15 and their parents will receive introductory instruction in zazen, kinhin, and zendo etiquette, with light snacks and refreshments served afterward in the dining room until 7:30 pm. This program is intended to help older children establish a sitting practice, with the support of their parents. If you’re interested in having your child(ren) participate, please email Chris Maley.

Extended Sitting

Our next hybrid extended sitting will be Sunday, December 11. Besides the usual sitting that runs from 8:30 to around 10:30 am, there are three other blocks of formal sitting scheduled. Private Instruction will be offered during the third block. Here is the full schedule.

The Zen of Football: Bills vs. Jets Watch Party

Calling all sports fans! Arnold Park resident Jake Langendorfer will host another watch party for the Bills vs. Jets game on Sunday, December 11, in the third-floor library at 5 Arnold Park. Pizza, chips, and salsa will be provided. The game starts at 1:00 pm, but you’re welcome to show up for the pre-party beginning at 12:15. Not familiar with the library? Just ring the front doorbell when you arrive, and Jake will lead the way.
