Bodhidharma Day (Tuesday, October 9)

A reminder that we have our ceremony tonight honoring the legendary founder of the Zen school. Sensei Amala Wrightson will be leading the ceremony. Everyone is welcome; you don’t have to be a member to attend!

Term Intensive (Thursday, October 11 – Thursday, November 1)

If you do come to the ceremony tonight, you can also pick up an application for the Term Intensive (or go online and print one out). It’s a great way to deepen your practice, working alongside others for these three upcoming weeks. Further information is also available here.

Funeral for Audrey Fernandez (Sunday, October 14)

Audrey’s funeral will be held in the Buddha Hall and will start at 11:00 a.m. We’ll forgo the usual post-teisho brunch and have refreshments after the service. For those who can’t be here and would like to listen in, everything will be carried on our audio stream (https://www.rzc.org/library/streaming-audio/).

All-day Sitting Cancelled

Due to the logistics of the funeral, the all-day sitting scheduled for that day in cancelled. The next one is on Sunday, October 28. Also, the Zen of Living and Dying meeting has been moved to Sunday, October 21.

Kenneth Kraft

After a long battle with cancer, longtime member Ken Kraft died last Monday, October 1st. Ken was a professor of religious studies at Lehigh University and a prolific author of books about Zen.

We are consulting with Ken’s wife, Trudy, about when to hold his funeral service, which she suggests might be sometime in 2019.
