Finding Your Seat & Extended Sitting This Weekend

There are plenty of opportunities this weekend for Zen practice. On Saturday, October 17, from 11:00 to noon, there’s the weekly Finding Your Seat, a great resource for beginners (but everyone is welcome). On Sunday, there’s the Extended Sitting from 6:15 am to 3:30 pm, but without a teisho or Dharma talk due to the trustees’ meeting scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. More information is here.

Upcoming Online Sesshin Dates

  • November 6 – 11 (5-day, Roshi)
  • December 11 – 13 (2-day, Eryl Kubicka)
  • January 8 – 15 (7-day Rohatsu, Roshi)

RAICA Household Energy Efficiency Challenge

Rochester Area Interfaith Climate Action is offering a new program to help Zen Center members reduce carbon dioxide emissions, improve comfort, and save money in their homes. There will be a kickoff webinar on October 21, 2020, to provide information and connect you with local resources. The program includes a free energy audit by a NYSERDA-certified energy auditor. After the audit, there will be support to answer questions and connect you with incentives and rebates. Find out more and sign up as part of the Zen Center team here.

Online Evening with Dharma Teacher Valerie Brown

On Wednesday, October 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm (via Zoom), Valerie Brown (Thich Nhat Hanh lineage) will give a talk titled: “How to Fight Racial and Social Injustice without Hating.” The evening also includes meditation, Q&A, and small group discussions. It’s hosted by Blooming Lilac Sangha, Dharma Refuge, and the Rochester Zen Center. More information and registration are here.

Seeing Through Racism Meeting

The next STR meeting will be Sunday, October 25, at 12:30 PM EDT. We will be using the Zen Center’s Zoom account, so it’s the same meeting ID and password we use for sittings and sesshin. If you have questions about how to access the Zoom account, please email Trueman at trueman@rzc.org. All are welcome to join.
