All-Day Sitting Postponed

This month’s all-day sitting was initially scheduled for this Sunday, October 13, but has now been pushed to the end of the month: Sunday, October 27.

This Sunday’s Youth Sunday Also Postponed

Because there’s no school on Monday and many families may be going away this weekend, there’s no Youth Sunday this Sunday, October 13. Instead Youth Sundays will occur on Sunday, October 20, as well as Sunday, October 27.

Rainbow Sangha: Open Meeting, October 20

Allies and LGBTQIA+ community members alike are invited to join Rainbow Sangha on Sunday afternoon, October 20, from 4:00 to 5:30 for a special “open meeting” for all interested Sangha members regardless of identity. With this Term’s first Argument Day at the U.S. Supreme Court, International Pronouns Day, and National Coming Out Day all within two weeks of each other, this month is a particularly fruitful time for raising awareness and building compassion. We’ll plan on meeting in Roshi’s library, moving to the community space or third-floor library depending on turnout. Bring an open mind, your pronouns, and your listening ears. For more information, contact Angela Hakkila at hakkila@wisc.edu.

Chapin Mill Roads

Many thanks to all the Sangha members who submitted suggestions for naming the Chapin Mill roads. Genesee County has accepted the names that the Zen Center’s Development Committee proposed after considering over 100 submissions: “Grist Mill Road” for the road that leads from Seven Springs Road down to the Mill House (which was originally a grist mill), Guest Cottage, Farm House, and Klava House; and “Retreat Center Drive” for the road that starts at the cottage garden in front of the Farm House, goes past the orchard, and ends at the Retreat Center. (We were asked not to use the Chapin name for either of the roads because of possible confusion regarding whether Batavia’s Chapin International Corporation might be located on that road.)
