Joining the 2-day Sesshin (December 10-12)

The regular schedule for morning and evening Zoom sittings is suspended during sesshin. However, even if you’re not signed up for sesshin, you’re welcome to join any block of sitting (though without private instruction). If you do, please log on before a block begins or during a kinhin to minimize distraction. Likewise, if you cannot stay for an entire block, exit Zoom during one of the kinhins whenever possible. Here is the schedule so you know what times to enter and join (the rounds are 35 minutes long with a 7-minute kinhin in between). Note: We will stream Trueman’s Dharma talks on Mixlr (where the sound is a bit better) as well as on Zoom. The regular schedule of Zoom sittings will resume Monday morning, December 13.

There won’t be in-person sittings at Arnold Park Friday evening or Saturday morning, but Sensei will lead the Sunday morning sitting at Arnold Park. If you’re not attending sesshin, come join him.

Dharma Reflections December 12

Just a reminder: All are welcome to join the monthly group Dharma Reflections, on Zoom, on Sunday, December 12, from 1:00-2:15 pm EST. Much more information and this month’s source material can be found here.

Sign-up Now Open for Winter Sangha Cookie Swap!

Love baking? Love community? Please register to join in our inaugural Winter Sangha Cookie Swap, a fun event taking place at Arnold Park the morning of Sunday, December 19, 2021!
In addition to individual bakers from our Sangha, this event involves effort from the Sangha Programs Office, volunteers, and even members of the Zen Kids program!
To participate, complete this short Google form and let the cookie-swap organizers know:

  • how to contact you;
  • your dietary needs (if any);
  • the types of dietary needs you can (or can’t) accommodate with your baking; and
  • whether you need any special logistical arrangements for cookie drop-off and pick-up.

Please sign up no later than Tuesday, December 14, in order to participate in this event. Organizers will contact you with detailed information on how to package your cookies and where and when to drop off and pick up your cookies on the day of the swap.

Uprooting Racism Book Discussion: The Way of Tenderness

Please join Uprooting Racism for our forthcoming discussion of Zenju Earthlyn Manuel’s deeply personal, insightful book, The Way of Tenderness: Awakening through Race, Sexuality, and Gender. This free discussion will take place on Zoom on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, from 7:00-8:30 pm EST. We ask that for this event, participants read the entire book ahead of time and come prepared to discuss the work as a whole.

All are welcome: Zen Center members and non-members, newcomers to Uprooting Racism events, guests, family, and friends. Please register for a free “ticket” here to receive the Zoom meeting information in your email inbox.

There is a copy of The Way of Tenderness on the New Arrivals shelf in the Zen Center library (on the wall, next to the former computer station). The Way of Tenderness is also available for purchase by special order through local indie bookstore Hipocampo Children’s Books (expect approximately three weeks’ processing time), online through Bookshop.org, or anywhere else you get your books.
