Center Closing for Break

No formal sittings at the Center or Chapin Mill, starting tomorrow, Wednesday, August 25, but the regular schedule of Zoom sittings will continue. Here is the schedule. For tonight’s sitting (7:00 – 8:30), Roshi will give dokusan in place of Sensei, who is currently on vacation.

We resume Wednesday morning, September 8, with zazen (6:00 – 7:15) and dokusan (Roshi).

Roshi Not Away in September

For the second year in a row, Roshi has felt compelled to cancel his trip to visit his family in Santa Fe, which was scheduled on the Center’s calendar for September 8 to 15. That means that he will now be offering dokusan (for people who have a hard time coming on weekdays) on Saturday, September 11.

New Sangha Programs

In response to feedback from the Sangha Engagement Survey we sent earlier this year, new Sangha programs are beginning to spring up.

One such program is Dharma Reflections, taking place the second Sunday of each month from 1:00 to 2:15 pm Eastern on Zoom, beginning September 12. Longtime Center member and practitioner Larry McSpadden will lead a friendly discussion, suitable for newcomers and established members alike, on short selections of Buddhist writings and teachings. You can learn more or register to participate here.

Another new program suitable for both new and established practitioners, the Weekly Dharma Reading Group, will meet on Saturdays beginning September 11, from 3:30 to 4:45 pm Eastern. Kathryn Argetsinger, longtime Center member and lay member of the Three Jewels Order, will lead the group. The Weekly Dharma Reading Group will approach basic Buddhist teachings through book discussions. The first text will be The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching, by Thich Nhat Hanh. You can learn more or register to participate here.
