First Sesshin at Chapin Mill:
    September 28th through October 5th, 2002

Finally...sesshin at Chapin Mill! After five years of effort by countless volunteers, the building is ready for use. It came right down to the wire, though. We received our Certificate of Occupancy on the Thursday before sesshin was to start, but through herculean effort by the staff the building was ready to go in time.

The familiar tea ceremony cookies wait in the brand-new kitchen for the start of sesshin. Through the kitchen pass-through, the dining room tables and chairs can be seen. After thirty-plus years of eating Japanese-style at sesshin, the tables and chairs are a welcome sight!

No more "upstairs" and "downstairs" kitchen in sesshin! There's room for all the kitchen workers, and the cold room is only a few steps away from the food preparation areas.

Many things still need to be done on the building itself, but the important work of filling the space with sesshin energy has begun.
