40th Anniversary Symposium
on Buddhism and Healing

Roshi Bodhin Kjolhede, Abbot of the Rochester Zen Center, welcomed the near-capacity audience of 451 people.
Roshi Bodhin Kjolhede opened the symposium with remarks on the genesis of the theme, Healing and Buddhism.
Our first speaker was Jon Kabat-Zinn, well known authority on healing and the mind.
Dr. Kabat-Zinn is author of "Wherever You Go, There You Are" and "Coming to our Senses: Healing Ourselves and the World through Mindfulness."
Roshi Joan Halifax, the founder and Abbot of the Upaya Zen Center in Santa Fe, is also a medical anthropologist who works with the dying.
 
David Abram, author of The Spell of the Sensuous, was named as one of the most influential people of the 20th century by the Utne Reader.
A master storyteller, David Abram took us on an Alaskan kayak adventure, complete with seals and a giant whale.
 
 
Ken Kraft, Professor of Asian Religion at Lehigh University and author of The Wheel of Engaged Buddhism, among other works.
