John Bero (principal architect) has been associated with the Rochester Zen Center for a
number of years. Last year he designed a proposed zendo for the Center, a project put on
hold after the gift of Chapin Mill. He has been a trustee of the Landmark Society of Western
New York since 1986, and his work is deeply rooted in the architectural traditions of our
region. His local projects have won him many awards, notably his brilliant restoration of the
International Museum of Photography at the George Eastman House in 1992. Recently he has
been assisting a group of Cistercian monks with the renovation of their 15th-century Spanish
stone cloister in California, and has developed practical experience working with spiritual
communities. Robert T. Leverich (design architect), until recently an architect with Bero Associates, has unusual credentials: he is also a practicing sculptor, a professor of architecture at Evergreen College, in Olympia, WA, and a woodworker trained at the School for American Crafts, Rochester Institute of Technology. Along with John Bero, he designed the proposed zendo for the Rochester Zen Center. Dudley C. Breed, Jr. (landscape architect) is principal landscape architect for Landscape & Prospect, of Syracuse. He has designed several areas of Rochester's beloved Highland Park, including the Lilac Festival Site and the Pavilion at Highland Park South, the Highland Overlook and Pinetum Drive. In 1988 he restored the historic East Terrace and Library Garden at the George Eastman house. More recently, he was honored for his work at the Chinese Culture University of Taiwan, where he was a visiting professor of landscape architecture. Scheri Fultineer (feng-shui consultant) has a Masters of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Masters of Theological Studies from the Harvard Divinity School. She has studied the geomantic and sacred garden traditions of cultures from around the world. Her work includes master planning for religious centers, and the design of institutional and residential gardens. Hank Reisen (feng-shui consultant) is an MIT-trained architect and feng-shui consultant, who has studied feng-shui in the U.S. and Asia since 1979. His teachers include Lin Yun, Paul Sun, Kwan Sai-Hung, and Dr. Wang Yu Te. Many of his architectural designs incorporate the principles of feng shui, and he has lectured, taught, and consulted throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Japan. |
