The new lift holds the drywall so that the workers can screw it in place. Lou Kubicka got back this week, after a month break with his family. He's tan, rested, and beaming after 3 weeks with his wife and two children on the Colorado ski slopes. Eryl, a RZC trustee and leader of our Madison affiliate, reached a new plateau in learning to ski, with the help of daughter Rhiannon. Their son David placed 28th (in a field of 75) in a professional snowboarding tournament, and Lou joins him in that sport every chance he gets.

The crew attaches another section of drywall to the chair sitting room ceiling.

Progress on the new building is steady. In Lou's absence, Mike Chrest ably took over as Project Foreman and achieved a great deal in a few short weeks, at times having three drywalling crews working simultaneously. Most of the drywall installation is completed, with mainly the temporary zendo / future exercise room to be done. The dining hall and adjacent chair sitting / conference room have high, peaked ceilings, which tested the crew's abilities. What helped, big-time, was the purchase of a drywall lift, which raises the panel up some 30 feet to where the boys, standing on a scaffold, can screw it in. We were surprised at the heat up there, which was considerably more than at floor level. In fact, it prompted us to add - just in the nick of time - heavy-duty electrical boxes for the future installation of ceiling fans in those rooms.

The staining of window trim is also going well, under the experienced eye and tutelage of professional painter Gary Ostrye, who is devoting a lot of time to the project.

Coming soon: Installing the decorative timbers in the dining hall and chair sitting room!
